Donald Trump retweets a photomontage of Nancy Pelosi with hijab and the Iranian flag

Donald Trump has used Twitter to spread an image of Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives along with the democrat senator Chuck Schumer in which they appear wearing the Middle East dress and in the background the flag of Iran.

The image that the President of the United States has retweeted comes from an anonymous user post. In which it is accompanied by the following text: “The corrupted Dems trying their best to come the Ayatollah’s rescue”. The photomontage, with the message “Democrats 2020” at the bottom of the picture, seeks to denounce alleged support of the Democratic opposition to the Islamic Republic.

The US president’s retweet seems to be the answer to Pelosi’s statements about why Iranian protesters are on the streets on the ABC’s This Week show. The democratic leader said that “the fact is this there were protesters in the streets before against the regime. After taking out Soleimani there were protesters in the streets join together, as you know against us. That wasn’t good”. But also she added that the Iran motivations “are bad” and pointed out that the Iranian general Qassem Soleimani “is a terrible person”.

The White House Press Secretary, Stephanie Grisham alluded to the controversial tweet in an interview with Fox News “I think the President was making the point that the democrats seem to hate him so much that they’re willing to be on the side of countries and leadership of countries who want to kill Americans”.

The view of American politics on this issue is divided. In a climate of tension, Iranian President Hasan Rohani has rejected the proposal to negotiate the nuclear agreement to Donald Trump’s liking and has criticized the EU for not being able to act as an independent bloc. Statements were made after the three European countries that are part of the agreement activated the deal’s dispute resolution mechanism.
